Fault, 2011 video installation

Fault is a video installation consisting of a three part single channel video projection that I projected on to a 6 X 10  foot silhouette of a house.  The video could be viewed from the front and the back.   From the back hung  F Series paintings and cyanotypes on fabric which were made using objects I collected in Austerlitz, NY. (see last six images) The works on paper, cyanotypes, wire, string, and shoe laces created a tangled vortex.

Ebben’s work creates narrative and subject matter that can not be fully expressed other than through the medium he chooses. Of course, I could identify elements and themes such as constraint and release--I shared good conversations in reaction to the show--but he executes his art as a work of true language that is best experienced and not translated. Some artists fall short of this and end up with something that could have been written as an essay.
